Digital Freedom Website Design & Building – STANDARD

Secure, Private, and FREE from Big Tech Surveillance

How Secure Are Most Websites?

The reality is that most websites are built with a focus on convenience rather than security. Most hosting companies do not own their own servers; they are simply resellers of space in large data centers and, increasingly, Big Tech cloud servers.

Hosting is a highly competitive market, with some providers offering website hosting for as little as a dollar a month. In these cases, you get what you pay for. The areas where costs are most frequently cut are security, maintenance, and support. Furthermore, these budget options are often slower and less reliable.

Your average web host and web designer may have a basic understanding of cybersecurity, but their threat model rarely includes Big Tech surveillance. Their focus is on providing the basic service you ordered, not on ensuring your digital privacy.

How Secure Can We Make a Standard Website?

At the Digital Freedom Alliance (DFA), our primary focus is on Digital Freedom. This means designing and building standard websites that are secure, private, and free from the Big Tech surveillance umbrella.

We will help you design and build the most secure and private website possible for your requirements by:

  • Following industry best practices for hardening and security.
  • Identifying your specific privacy needs and threat model.
  • Finding privacy-focused alternatives for every tool and service you require.
  • Implementing secure handling of data, logs, and user information.
  • Providing a comprehensive guide on how to maintain and use your secure site.

While we can build a website that is significantly more secure than the industry standard, it is important to understand that a standard website is designed to interact with web visitors. It uses internet protocols that, by default, are often not optimized for privacy. A standard site has a large attack surface with many moving parts across different layers.

Think of it like securing a regular building: you can put bars on the windows, install alarms, and set up 24-hour monitoring. You can make it very difficult to breach, but you are not in full control of every external factor.

Do You Need Additional Security and Privacy?

There is a limit to how much you can secure a standard “building.” If your needs require a purpose-built solution with security and privacy baked into the very foundation—think Fort Knox or a military headquarters—you may require a different approach.

If you require “Three-Letter Agency” level security and privacy, please check out our Digital Freedom Website Design and Build – Custom service.

We can build your Digital Freedom Autonomous website starting from $1,500. Alternatively, we can help you design it, and you can then use your own developers or build it yourself.

The best place to start is with our Website Design and Building – Standard Consulting Package. This process helps you determine your real needs and provides you with a clear roadmap of your options.

Consulting Process: $1,000 Package

Step 1: Submit the basic consulting request form. We will review your request in relation to available resources and alignment with our current direction, responding to you within 48 hours.

Step 2: If your request is accepted, we will send you a payment link and an information pack containing detailed questions to help us understand your project.

Step 3: You will be granted access to a VAPA-powered DFA Virtual Assistant. This assistant is designed to help you explore options and ensure you consider all critical aspects of your project. It can answer many of your questions before our interactive chat, saving time and allowing you to ask more targeted questions during our session. The assistant can also produce a draft of your needs and identify further questions. (If you prefer not to use the assistant, you can simply respond to the questions in the information pack).

Step 4: We review your submission and prepare a preliminary report to present during our consultation.

Step 5: We schedule a one-hour interactive chat on your preferred privacy-focused platform (encrypted IM, voice, or video conferencing). During this chat, we present the preliminary report and go over the details together.

Step 6: Based on your feedback, we finalize the report and provide it to you in a variety of standard formats.

Step 7: You decide how to proceed. You can choose to do it yourself (check out our Labs), use other developers, hire us to implement specific parts, or a mix of all three.

Optional: VAPA Virtual Webmaster Add-On

Price: $500 (When added to a consultation; normally $1,000)

The VAPA Virtual Webmaster (VVW) is a downloadable AI Assistant designed to assist with your project. While the assistant used in the consulting process is specialized for planning, the VVW has all those capabilities plus much more.

The VVW understands cybersecurity, privacy, and Digital Freedom. We will train your VVW on your specific project and plan so it can guide you through implementation and help you explore further options. It will understand your specific technology stack and ensure it is correctly configured. Once the project is complete, it becomes your ongoing assistant for maintenance and support.

Most importantly, this information is in your control. It does not reside online or in the cloud unless you choose to upload it. You can update it yourself as things change with no ongoing fees.
